Desert District Roundtable

When: Second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM (August-May)
Where: LDS Stake Center, 1031 S. Norma, Ridgecrest.
What: The first part of the meeting has general information about events in the District and Council. The second part is a split session for the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts. These sessions are geared to the interest of each group and is open to anyone interested in Scouting. The roundtable works one month ahead with the themes, so people can prepare themselves for upcoming events.

Info night -- Unit planning package pick up. All units should have a least one leader at this event
September The Risk Zone (training for safe driving)/Troop Leadership Training - Scoutmasters are required to provide Junior Leader Training once or twice yearly (after every Troop election) for your youth in leadership positions. Do you know how?
October Climb on Safely - Are you taking your unit climbing? Leaders should have this training. You will also need trained climbing instructors. Find out all about what it takes to become an instructor as well as receiving your unit level training.
November Cold Weather camping - Does your unit go winter camping? Do you know how to make snow caves? What activities are there to do if you go out in the snow? Come and find out.
December Challenging Boys/Parents - Come and learn strategies to deal with "difficult" situations from others who have "Been there and done that."
January Cooking - Tired of the same old food on every campout? Come and learn some new recipies. There might be samples!
February Long term camping/hiking prep - Do you need to learn how to take your unit on a 50 miler? Do you know how to prepare to camp/hike at altitude? We have the answers.
March Safe Swim Defense/Safety Afloat - If you plan to do these activities you need this training to take out your Scouts.)
April Administration "How to" - Learn some new tips on how to do meetings, Scoutmaster conferences, patrol leaders meetings, newsletters/e-mails, Eagle projects, more.
May Planning for 2009-2010 - These are your Roundtables, come and help us to develop a schedule with topics that interest you, we need your input.
