Current Projects

We now have three DNA matchs between descendants John Webb and Mary Boone: 1) a descendant of George Webb b. 1723 and 2) a descendant of James Webb & Mary Matthews through their son Adin Webb and 3) a descendant of John Webb and Rachel Willits through their son George and his son Isaiah. Not that we really needed it since both these lines are well documented; but, this affirms the ancestry to John Webb & Mary Boone and also identifies several other lines which are related but whose connection to this family is not yet known.

James Webb, son of John Webb & Mary Boone was born Mar 03, 1737 (Bible record & Quaker record differ by one day) Oley Twp, Philadelphia Co. (now Exeter Twp, Berks Co.), PA and died 1808 (Bible record) probably in Kentucky.  He married Oct 1762-May 1763 Mary Matthews born Oct 18, 1743 (Bible record) Exeter Twp d/o Robert Matthews and Mary Coles of Exeter Twp. John Webb and Mary Boone's son James has been mis-identified for almost 80 years as the James Webb of Letcher Co., KY.

TRACING THE PATH OF JAMES WEBB -1737-1808 By Emrick Webb. Emrick (Rick), a descendant of Adin Webb, began researching James Webb quite some time ago and last year someone sent me a copy of Rick's original document.  This document is an update to the original.

Credits and Acknowledgments

The following is a combination of the efforts and contributions of: Kate B. Cook, my co-researcher and also a descendant of son James b. 1737. Diana Lehman and Darrell Miller, both notable Miller family researchers and I am indebted to Diana for copies of the Matthews v. Warren case files which are invaluable documents.  Their research on Moses Webb & Hannah Matthews has been extremely helpful and I'm sure many researchers are grateful for Diana's transcription of some of the Draper Manuscripts. Diana Webb Evans and a champion of all Webb research.  Dean Cherrington, co-author of THE CHERRINGTON FAMILY HISTORY & GENEALOGY whose assistance with the Cherrington and Matthews family was invaluable.  Shirley Powers Webb, owner of the James Webb Bible who opened the door to proving the parents of James & Mary Webb.  We are indebted to Shirley for her early research and trips to Green Co., Kentucky where she met and befriended descendants of Ira Webb, Amasa's grandson, and from whom she was given the James Webb Bible.  Todd Johnson, Wanda Salsman, and Judy Houdyshell, descendants of Adin Webb, who provided a great deal of help and research on Adin family.  Emrick (Rick) Webb whose research during the 1990's on James Webb, Sr. and Adin Webb included trips to Kentucky, Virginia, and Pennsylvania and affirms and extends our research.  Roger Coltvert who provided descendants of Rachel Webb daughter of James & Mary.  Glenda Frank Moser a great source of help on the descendants of George Webb. Glen Hicks, a descendant of James Webb & Lettie Nelson, has been a great help in providing data on this family and I am indebted to him.  And too many more to name individually but whose names are almost certainly found in the text of the documents or in footnotes.  There are others who are not mentioned here or in the text but certainly contributed greatly during efforts to eliminate suspected Webb or related family connections, I have been assisted by many very good researchers and I hope I have given credit where it is due.  If you find that I have not please advise me so I can correct the oversight.

Research Philosophy

My primary interest is in finding and documenting source data which supports and aides further research.  I don't particularly understand why genealogists would not want to share their sources in order to assist in their own research and that of others.  I understand there is great desire to be recognized for our efforts; however, published genealogies without reference to sources are virtually worthless and do little to facilitate further research.

Why Copyright?

Some of the documents contained here I have copyrighted simply so that others do not copy and post my documents as their own. As with any public records the dates and sources found here are freely available and in fact cannot be copyrighted. I've even provided sources for you to veryify the data yourself. So you can take this data and use the sources and even pretend you did all the work. I would, however, appreciate it if you would at least give credit to the sources I cite who have given me assistance or who I cite as the source. But just don't take entire portions of my text word for word and publish them on rootsweb and call them your own as several have already done.

How to Contact me: Ok, I've figured out how to get my email posted here so it can't be picked up by spammers.
