PRESS RELEASE
The annual election of officers for the Kern County Libertarian Party was held on Thursday night the 7th of January.  Dr. Bob Sheckler, a Ridgecrest chiropractor, living in china Lake Acres, was elected Chairman.  He talked about the statisticsof politics, claiming that the Libertarian Party was henceforth the party of statistics.  "About 40% of the people of Kern County in an objective testing program, test out to be over 80% in agreement with the principles of the Libertarian Party, but only 1% to 2% are registered as Libertarians and only about 2% to 4% vote Libertarian," he said in his opening statement.  "It shall be the job of each member of the Libertarian Party to find those Libertarian thinking Kern County residents and get them to register as Libertarians.  We need the registration statistics, and with the current open primary situatio, that party to which one feels some loyalty, even though there is at least a 50% disagreement, will still be available in the primaries even after we all register as Libertarians."

Jeffrey Laing, the outgoing1998 Chairman and unsuccessful candidate for the 34th District Assembly seat was elected Vice Chairman.  He spoke glowingly about the individual members who had supported the party over the last year, passing out certificates of merit to those who worked the Kern County Fair booth at Bakersfield and others who made the year so successful for the Libertarians that not only were the number of registered Libertarians increased from about 1207 to well over 1500 during the year.  He also mentioned that the dues paying Members of the Libertarian Party had increased from 37 to 68.

Greg Goodsall was elected to the office of Secretary and Ryan Gifford was re-elected Treasurer.

Dr. Sheckler pointed out that the goal was to have more registered Libertarians, more registered Libertarians joing the state and national parties, and more Libertarians active in the operation of their party in Kern County.  to this end the various members of the Board were directed to find ways to establish different committees based on finding more ways to bring Libertarianism to Kern County and the various cities, towns and taxing districts within it.  Another goal is to have Libertarians run for every elective office within the country.

What is the Libertarian Party?

The Libertarian Party is your representative in American politics. It is the only political organization which respects you as a unique and competent individual.

                                America's Heritage

Libertarians believe in the American heritage of liberty, enterprise, and personal responsibility. Libertarians recognize the responsibility we all share to preserve this precious heritage for our children and grandchildren.

                                Free and Independent

Libertarians believe that being free and independent is a great way to live. We want a system which encourages all people to choose what they want from life; that lets them live, love, work, play, and dream their own way.

                                Caring for People

The Libertarian way is a caring, people-centered approach to politics. We believe each individual is unique. We want a system which respects the individual and encourages us to discover the best within ourselves and develop our full potential.

                                Principled; Consistent

The Libertarian way is a logically consistent approach to politics based on the moral principle of self-ownership. Each individual has the right to control his or her own body, action, speech, and property. Government's only role is to help individuals defend themselves from force and fraud.

                                Tolerant

The Libertarian Party is for all who don't want to push other people around and don't want to be pushed around themselves. Live and let live is the Libertarian way.

America's Third Largest Political Party

The Libertarian Party is America's third largest and fastest growing political party. Libertarians engage in a variety of projects, working for everyone's liberty on every issue.

The Libertarian Party was created in December of 1971 by people who realized that the politicians had strayed from America's original libertarian foundation, with disastrous results. Their vision was the same as that of America's founders -- a world where
individuals are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways, a world of peace, harmony, opportunity, and abundance.

Libertarians are practical; we know we can't make the world perfect. But, it can be better. Libertarians will keep working to create a better, freer society for everyone. As William Allen White said: "Liberty is the only thing you cannot have unless you are willing to give it to others."

"This country is a one-party   country. Half of it is called Republican and half is called Democrat. It doesn't make any difference. All the really good ideas belong to the Libertarians."

Why not stick with the establishment?

The politicians in Washington and our state capitals have led us away from the principles of individual liberty and personal responsibility which are the only sound foundation for a just, humane, and abundant society.

Government at all levels is too large, too expensive, woefully inefficient, arrogant, intrusive, and downright dangerous. Democratic and Republican politicians have created the status quo and do not intend to change it.

The Libertarian Option

Consider the Libertarian option.

Substantially reduce the size and intrusiveness of government and cut all taxes. Let peaceful, honest people offer their goods and services to willing consumers without a hassle from government. Let peaceful, honest people decide for themselves what to eat, drink, read, or smoke and how to dress, medicate themselves, or make love, without fear of criminal penalties. The U.S. government should defend Americans and their property in America and let the U.S. taxpayer off the hook for the defense bill of wealthy countries like Germany and Japan.

Hi All Libertarians;

Fed up with the incrimental, snails pace of drug policy reform and of
waiting for the end to the war on democracy? Disgusted with the arrest of
Steve and Michele Kubby in California?

Come visit the Amendment to Decriminalize Marijuana web page.

http://www.enter.net/~aahpat/amend.htm

I believe that the drug policy of this country is a national issue and
the only way to settle it, once and for all, is with a national response.
That is why I am promoting an amendment to the U.S. constitution to
eleviate the war tools of 80% of the war machine, the laws against pot
possession, use, production and sale in America.

There is one plain text petition form for the individual and another form
for collecting signatures that you can download and pass out to friends
and family.

The only way that we are going to take America back from the drug
warriors and the new prohibitionists is to stand up and be counted. So
please stop by. If you agree with the amendment, sign the guest book so I
can tabulate the interest, download and distribute the petition to the
United States Congress and tell your family and friends about what we
want for our country.

Freedom is liberating but liberty is not free. We can only free
ourselves.
