SBSL-RR — Accomplishments
Many volunteers have helped build the SBSLRR. One person could not complete the following accomplishments since the railroad’s inception in 1999.
Accomplishments:
- Constructed 5200 feet of track
- Denailed, cut, slotted and dipped 15,800 railroad ties (used 2 X 4’s on edge)
- Used 3700 pounds of aluminum rail
- Built 452 feet of locomotive/car indoor storage track
- Built 470 ten-foot track panels
- Built and installed 39 switches (7 are pneumatic controlled)
- Installed automatic signals at North Narrows
- Installed automatic signal (wig-way) at driveway crossing
- Moved 185 tons of decomposed granite for track ballast
- Built 2 trestles and 1 bridge
- Built 37 water (rain?) culverts [Note: These get lots of use in our desert.]
- Brought in approximately 450 yards of fill dirt
- Installed hydraulic locomotive lift
- Installed and built 6 steaming bays and one lead-in track
- Fabricated 8 passenger riding cars
- Built 11 buildings for Swingtown, and Brubakerville has a covered bridge to get to the church
- Provided Christmas Train rides for 6 years, with new light displays each year
This could not have happened without the over 90 Tie Owners that have helped build the Sagebrush Short Line Railroad.
Both Linda and I wish to thank the volunteers for their tremendous help and support in this project.
