The following are the conferences/categories that will be most closely covered: 1. SWAMI's Alma Mater/Favorite - (Notre Dame, Fresno St., & UCLA) 2. American Athletic (AAC) 3. Atlantic Coast (ACC) 4. Big 10 5. Big 12 6. Mountain West 7. Pac Twelve 8. SEC 9. Independent 10. Miscellaneous
Following is an example of the format for the game entry.
Date/Loc Game# Change Team # 1 (Visitors) Team # 2 (Home) Margin Pts * 1: 7/PA Army at NAVY by Legend: (before game number) * => game counts double points (star game) (after game number) 7 => playing date, if other than Saturday of that week PA => at a neutral site, in this case, Pennsylvania
Check the Team you predict will win. Team # 2 is home team except for neutral sites (see LEGEND info above).
Under "Margin Points", enter the number of points by which you guess your predicted winning team will win (zero is acceptable).
If no entry is made for Team selection, i.e. skipped game or no paper turned in, then you will be given the least amount of points for that game - yes, folks, it could be a negative value!
If you find an error on the SWAMI schedule, contact the SWAMI Commitee at delkellogg@gmail.com ASAP.
The following equations are used to score your paper: Total game points = Game win points + Game margin points where Game win points = 80 * week#, if correct team is picked, or 0 if not. Game margin points = (20 - Game margin) * week# where Game margin = MIN(40, ABS(Game margin difference)) (see NOTE) where Game margin difference = Team#1 score - Team#2 score - Predicted Margin Points per Team#1))
NOTE: Margin points are based on how close your pick matches the
actual result. They take into account which team won and by how many points
and are compared to your prediction. For example, you picked team # 1 to
win by 10 and team # 2 won by 20, you would be off by 30 points and thus
your game margin would be 30. If you are a total egghead and picked the
point spread by more than 40 points, we will be kindhearted and not penalize
you more than we would a half-egghead who was exactly 40 points away from
the actual point spread. Consequently, if you could gain a maximum of 20%
of the total points allowed from margin points, you can also lose (via
negative points) a maximum of 20% of the total points allowed.
The points for each week are progressive. With the exception of the
starred games, each game's maximum number of points is 100 times the week
number, i.e. week # 1 games are worth 100 points each and week # 13 games
are worth 1300 points each. Starred games count double the normal points.
If a game is played differently (or not played at all) than is on the SWAMI
schedule, the game will not be scored.
PENALTY POINTS:
If you turn your paper (entry) in later than the time it's due, the following points will be deducted from your points: 200*(Week#), unless it was really late (SWAMI Committee discretion) then it is scored as a NO PAPER (see below). I.E. later paper in week # 4 = - 200 * 4 = - 800 points. If you fail to turn in your paper, the points you receive will be equal to number of points last place entry received minus 100*(week #). I.E. for week # 5, last place entry received 4125 pts., so 4125 - 100*5 = 3625 pts.
TURNING IN YOUR ENTRY:
Entries are due via the SUBMIT PICKS command on each entry form by Friday midnight of the week the games are played, except for week # 13 (Thanksgiving week) they are due by Wednesday midnight. All entries submitted after midnight will be assessed penalty points for being late. The first electronic entry is due by midnight 1 September 2023!
GOOD LUCK AND GOOD PICKING!!!
